Get Lit 2008

With not an empty seat at Union Street Restaurant in Newton, Mass., Get Lit 2008 proved an overwhelming success in uniting readers of different ages for a night of insight into the writing life. Tova Mirvis kicked things off with the absorbing story of how The Scarlet Letter blew her away when she was a sheltered yeshiva girl. Next up was Jon Papernick, who courageously dissected his first novel, which he self-published at 19. With humility, he took his teacher's pen and marked up every grammatical error, cliché, and amateurish sentence. Lastly, we played a controversial and revealing game of 20 questions with the Wilson boys: father, author Jonathan Wilson, and son, MFA graduate Adam Wilson. No topic was too outrageous or personal. All in all, this unique event gave guests the opportunity to schmooze with the personalities behind the writing while enjoying some delicious discounts on food and books. JBooks.com and JVibe would like to thank the authors, sponsors, guests, and staff at Union Street Restaurant for all their hard work.
